Dr. William Sutherling Dr. Adam Mamelak
is the neurosurgical director of the Epilepsy and Brain Mapping Program.
He graduated from Harvard Medical School and completed residency training
at the University of California at San Francisco with subspecialty
training in epilepsy surgery, functional stereotaxy and neuro-oncology.
He has extensive experience with intra-operative brain mapping techniques
and image-guided resections. Dr. Mamelak is an associate fellow of
the American College of Surgeons and has an appointment as an associate
in biology at the California Institute of Technology. He is assistant
professor at the City of Hope National Medical Center and has active
research programs in MR Spectroscopy and the basic science of neuronal
growth caused by seizures. He is the recipient of the 1997 Young Clinician
Investigators Award by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons
and has published more than 25 articles. Dr. Roger Huf is the
Epilepsy and Brain Mapping Program's pediatric neurologist and co-director
of the ketogenic diet program. After receiving his medical degree
from the University of Bologna in Bologna, Italy, he completed a fellowship
in adult and pediatric neurology at UCLA. He serves as Assistant Clinical
Professor of Pediatric Neurology at UCLA School of Medicine and is
the director of pediatric neurology at White Memorial Medical Center
in Los Angeles. He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics
and is a member of the Child Neurology Society and American Academy
of Neurology. He was co-founder of the Medical Outreach Program for
Day Care Centers in Brooklyn, New York and co-founder and board member
of the Para Los Ninos Day Care Center in Skidrow. He is a board member
of the International Medical Committee in Los Angeles and serves as
founding board member of International Orphan Care. Dr. Linda Philpott
is the director of neuropsychology services. She received her doctorate
from the California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles
and completed her post graduate education as a fellow in neuropsychology
at the UCLA School of Medicine Neuropsychiatric Institute. She is
a member of the American Psychological Association and International
Neuropsychological Society. For eight years Dr. Philpott conducted
research in memory and aging, Alzheimer's disease and neuropsychometric
correlates in psychiatric disease at Harbor UCLA Meical Center. At
The Epilepsy and Brain Mapping Program, she is involved in active
research programs studying neuronal activity in the human brain during
learning and memory, cognitive outcomes, post surgical treatment of
epilepsy, WADA and intraoperative brain mapping. Dr. Tatiana Maleeva is an adult and pediatric neurologist. As a member of the Epilepsy and Brain Mapping team of physicians, Dr. Maleeva closely monitors patients and attends the surgical conference meetings. Jeri Nichols-Sutherling
is the director of adult and pediatric programs for the Epilepsy and
Brain Mapping Program. She is a registered nurse with a bachelors
degree in nursing from Florida State University. Her professional
experience encompasses work in health care administration, neonatal
nursing, pediatrics and adult critical care. She has been the director
of adult and pediatric programs for the Epilepsy and Brain Mapping
Program since 1993. After extensive training on the ketogenic diet
at Johns Hopkins Universitys medical school, she was instrumental
in establishing the ketogenic diet program here at EBMP. She has been
actively involved in treating patients with the diet and continues
to coordinate one of 17 ketogenic diet centers in the United States. Danine Mele-Hayes,
R.D. is a registered dietitian with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Indiana University.
She completed an Accredited Dietetic Internship Program from Indiana
University School of Medicine. After receiving extensive training
on the ketogenic diet at Johns Hopkins University's medical school,
she developed a successful approach to the diet by individualizing
it to meet patient and family needs and providing quality nutritional
care and ongoing support through regular accessibility via voice mail,
e-mail, telephone, pager, and fax. She also provides continuous training
to all hospital personnel involved in the program. |
